In the meantime

I've lacked much inspiration these days so I apologize for the minimal posting. I'm going to try and blog a bit more, and with French Open tennis on TSN I should have a topic again.

In the meantime, I'll say a quick word about my brother's recent wedding. It's still strange to think of my goofy brother as a married guy, but he is. Everything went off without a hitch, and it was a ton of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with family and old friends, and handing out my business card to anyone that I thought might even care a little bit. I only got asked when my wedding would be about six times. I tried to be polite and simply say, no time soon or something along that lines. That is until one of my thirty-something unmarried cousins asked when mine would be, then I replied 'oh, about two weeks after you,' he laughed and said it would be a good plan, everyone would already be in town. Weddings are officially more fun when you know half the guests, and as the sister of the groom are expected to have a few cocktails... Congrats Darcy and Mel.

Family-palooza

I've spent a lot of time away from my family, and I'm ok with that. The cliche of 'distance makes the heart grow fonder' is especially true with family. Since I don't see my family, especially my extended family, all that often I'm quite looking forward to this weekend.
My brother gets married on Saturday so everyone is heading to Calgary. It will be good to see everyone to celebrate looking forward to catching up with relatives, and friends who are like relatives. I'm not looking forward to answering the same questions, and explaining that I'm nowhere closer to marriage than I was the last time I saw them (even if I was 10). This is where the wine comes in...

Summer's arrival

I know it's not technically summer, but today was my official kick-off to summer.
One of my favourite early summer rituals is to sit on an Earl's patio and drink margaritas. That's the event that always signals the beginning of my summer so summer is here.
It also doesn't hurt that prior to the margaritas I played a round of golf. Nothing says summer like golf. I played terribly and somehow we managed to play this par 3 course in the completely wrong order-- we played holes one and two and then nine, then 7, then 5 and finished things in the right order. As we said, anyone can play the course in the right order...

Mother's Day Observations

Standing in Hallmark on Mother's Day is funny. First of all, the card selection is a little slim, but mostly because of the people who are buying cards.
Not surprisingly, it's mostly young guys. They're all in their 20s and mostly hungover. It's just quite interesting to listen to guys buying cards for their moms and saying 'dude' a lot.

Pardon my absence

I know I've been MIA lately, but there hasn't been much to blog about. Being involved in any way in the coverage of a triple murder is pretty exhausting and haven't had much inspiration of late.
I've also been suffering from 'nice day' syndrome, where if I'm inside and at my computer on a nice sunny hot day I feel guilty. So even if I'm inside, as long as I'm not at my computer I figure I'm ok. But the best part of nice day syndrome is when it involves beer, and I can gather with friends on my deck drinking beer. It's even better when in order to drink beer on my deck we move all of my furniture outside (except the bed). But it's good to know all of my chairs and my coffee table fit on my little deck. Made for a crazy Saturday night.
There will be more blogging soon, but as for now, I'm off to play basketball--it is a nice day!
